Huawei expands its product range of affordable tablet lineup by introducing three new tablets bearing name Mediapad M5 10 Pro, Mediapad M5 (10.8) and Mediapad (8.4) at MWC 2018 held in Barcelona today. The device is a successor to last year’s Mediapad M3, the brand went for moniker M5 skipping the M4 as the number is considered unlucky in China.
The Mediapad M5 series tablets will be available in two colors, Space Gray and Champagne Gold. However, pricing and availability remain unknown.
The series runs on Android 8.0 Oreo-based Em UI 8.0 out of the box.In addition it bags features like picture-in-picture (PiP), app shortcuts, intelligent text selection, and more.
As for similarities, all three slates are powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor clocked at 4×2.4GHz ARM Cortex-A73 and 4x 1.8GHz ARM Cortex-A53 mated with onboard Mali-G71MP8 graphics.
Other than the SoC, the devices also feature an Eye Comfort Mode that reduces blue light exposure; a USB Type-C connector; a 13MP rear camera with autofocus and an 8MP front camera with fixed focus, a built-in microphone; support for LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, and Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Hi-Res audio; fingerprint sensor and Huawei QuickCharge.
The MediaPad M5 10 Pro is the flagship of the lineup which comes with Huawei’s M-Pen stylus claimed by the company to last 50 hours on a single charge, has up to 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, and supports tilt and shade effects.
The device also gets built-in POGO pins which can easily pair with keyboard accessories. It packs four Harman Kardon professionally tuned speakers along with Huawei’s Listen software and battery fueling the device shares 7,500mAh which takes just 2.9 hours to fully charge.
Other specifications remain same as the MediaPad M5 (10.8).
As for the price, the MediaPad M5 Pro 64GB Wi-Fi only variant will retail for €499(Approx. $552 /Rs.39,700), 128GB Wi-Fi and 64GB LTE variant for €549 (Approx. $ 675/Rs.43,700) and €599 (Approx. $736/Rs 47,700) for the 128GB LTE model.
The MediaPad M5 (10.8) is slightly a downgraded variant of the former sibling MediaPad M5 10 Pro. However, it retains similarities in terms of 10.8-inch LCD display bearing a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC mated with 4GB RAM and offered in 32GB/64GB/128GB storage options along with 7,500mAh battery.
As for the price, the MediaPad M5 (10.8) 32GB Wi-Fi only variant is priced at €399 (Approx. $490/ Rs 32,000), 64GB Wi-Fi only and 32GB LTE variant at €449 (Apprpx. $552/Rs 36,000), €499 (Approx. $613/Rs 39,700) for the Wi-Fi-only 128GB and 64GB LTE and 128GB LTE only variant is priced at €549 (Approx.$674/Rs 43,700).
The MediaPad M5 (8.4), on the other hand, is the weakest and smaller variant of all. It packs two speakers instead of four, a smaller 8.4-inch display featuring a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels with a 2.5D curved glass, a 5,400mAh battery.
It shares the same 4GB of RAM, with 32GB/64GB of internal storage every other spec remain in common.
The 32GB Wi-Fi only variant of the M5 (8.4) is priced at €349(Approx. $429 / Rs. 27,800), 64GB Wi-Fi-only and 32GB LTE variant at €399 (Approx. $490/Rs 32,000 ), €449 (Approx. $552/ Rs 36,000) for the 128GB Wi-Fi-only and 64GB LTE variant and 128GB LTE model at €499 (Approx. $613/Rs 39,700).
